RIE® approach at Ho Chi Minh City – Authentic RIE® environment

Although the Montessori method now has been popular in Ho Chi Minh City in particular and nationwide in general, RIE ® approach still seems rather new in Vietnam. Now we will introduce to you the RIE ® approach to Ho Chi Minh City.

Introducing the RIE ® Approach to Ho Chi Minh City

We opened the Thao Dien campus of The Montessori International School of Vietnam 14 years ago. At the time, it was Vietnam’s first Montessori school. MIS has also opened two other campuses in Ho Chi Minh City and has assisted other Montessori schools throughout Vietnam by training and coaching.

The MIS – River House team is constantly finding ways to improve the learning and living experience for our students as a part of its commitment to the AMS and Pathway certification. Our aim is to ensure that your child is happy with their learning and loves every moment in class, from upgrading classroom equipment to offering additional clubs that allow parents to be class (see specifics of our Early Start and MonPlay® programs).

MonPlay® – A club for children and parents

After a long time doing research and gaining experience, we proudly introduce to you the Resources for Infant Educarers® approach which makes a wonderful combination with the  the Montessori method for children under three years old.

What does RIE ® mean?

Magda Gerber, a specialist in infant education, developed RIE ® in 1978, which mainly promoted ‘Educaring™’. She stated that infants or young children should be treated with respect and be seen as unique young individuals.

This involves explicitly talking to them, allowing them to do what they want, and most importantly, trusting them. Rather than giving orders to a child or make them do things, RIE ® advises parents to consider the choice children might make, recognizing that at a time when they are able to do so. After all, your “young individual” can discover what they are interested in.

Put simply,

You do not want a child to do what they cannot do. You do not want a child to be what they cannot be.”

Happy child

Introducing RIE® to Vietnam

Though RIE ® has long been popular in the world, it is still a fairly recent approach in Vietnam. At MIS, we are happy to suggest parents on how to incorporate RIE ® into their child’s home routine and doing. For this reason or for the teacher to get to know the child prior to his first day at kindergarten, home visits are offered by MIS-River House. And we’re still pleased, of course, to show you how RIE ® is applied in our classrooms.
