Outdoor Learning in Children

Why Outdoor Learning is Important for the Children?

Outdoor play is an essential component of child care and childhood growth. It encourages children to get some fresh air and engage in hands-on exploration of the natural environment. Nature, on the other hand, has a positive influence that extends beyond play and fresh air. We’d like to share with you some of the reasons why children’s mental and physical growth is aided by exposure to nature in today’s post.

Physical Activity

Children are free to run, climb, and use up all of their resources outside. This is one of the most significant advantages of outdoor play. It provides children with a fun way to improve their large and small motor skills as well as their cardiovascular endurance. Since children are spending more time indoors playing video games and watching television, this form of physical activity is becoming much more necessary.

Assists In Learning

In outdoor learning play, it gives more advantages than just physical ones. It may also aid in the growth of cognitive and social skills. When it comes to learning, children depend on their senses. Outside, there is a plethora of stimulating stimuli. There are so many ways for children to explore and learn using their best resources — their curiosity and senses — from soft plants to robins’ songs to fragrant flowers to cold snow.

Furthermore, children are more likely to invent games while playing outside, particularly when playing with others. This helps them to learn about the world, take charge, make decisions, collaborate with others, create and obey rules, and have fun while doing so. It also aids in the development of communication skills, number relationships (they often choose games that include scorekeeping and counting), and important social customs (learning to play together and cooperate).

A child’s discovery of their own physical and emotional capacities by experiments with the physical environment is another valuable lesson that can be delivered through outdoor play. For instance, how far can I swing? Is it possible for me to go down the slide by myself? Is it painful to trip and fall in the grass? What if I toss this rock into the water? Many outdoor areas provide a fun environment for children to investigate these questions and topics. Furthermore, their responses also assist them in intuiting where they fit into the natural order of things.

Appreciation of the Outdoors

One of the most significant advantages of daily outdoor play is that it helps children cultivate an appreciation for the natural world. Beautiful sounds, sights, textures, and life abound in the outside world. Exposing children to the beauty of the world around them at a young age can be a great way to help them grow their visual sense and become more mindful of all the beauty around them, not just outside.

Children learn about the natural elements, weather, seasonal changes, and the amazing variety of plants and animals when playing outdoors. This not only helps them connect with their readers through nature, but it also expands their imagination and piques their interest in the world around them.

Outdoor Activities You Can Do With Your Child

You may be wondering what activities you can do with your child now that you have this knowledge. There are a plethora of activities to choose from. Here are a few suggestions for fun outdoor activities:

  • Take a walk through the woods to inspire exploration.
  • Organize an obstacle course.
  • Play with a parachute
  • Inside, try a messy art or craft.
  • Take note of all the sounds you hear and try to recognize them.
  • Take a book outside to read.

Keep in mind that the operation does not have to be flawless. Simple activities such as watching the leaves change color, jumping in rain puddles, or watching the flowers sprout in the spring will provide a valuable and lasting outdoor experience.

The Outdoors At A Montessori School

The importance of nature and nature education was emphasized by Maria Montessori, the founder of the Montessori education system. It should be used as an extension of the school, she claimed. Maria Montessori once said, “There must be provision for the child to have interaction with nature; to recognize and appreciate the order, peace, and beauty of nature.”

We aim to provide not only the best childcare but also the best Montessori education at this school. This means integrating nature as much as possible, adhering to Montessori principles, and striving to be as holistic as possible, incorporating human spirit values and the child’s full growth — physically, socially, mentally, and cognitively.
